BBQ Tools: Chimney Starter

Today's post is about a tool that is as much of a time-saver as it is a flavor-saver. It's called a Chimney Starter.

A chimney starter is used to start your coals, and makes perfect embers without fail. It starts coals fast, without the need of any starter fluid. All it takes is a few pieces of newspaper, your coals and a match.

A chimney starter is essential for cooking something that takes a few hours. When you need to replace your coals, there's no need to add cold coals to the embers, so you won't lose heat. It's also great for Dutch Oven cooking.

Benefits to using a chimney starter:
  1. No need for starter fluid, so no more fuel taste in your meats / veggies.
  2. Faster, hotter embers without having to tend to the coals.
  3. Safer coal starting.
  4. Great for long cooks (Turkey, Pork Loin, Pot Roast, etc.)

Tips for use:
  1. Do not use a chimney starter directly on concrete. It gets very hot and will cause damage.
  2. Do not use starter fluid.
  3. Avoid high winds.
I never grill now without using my Chimney Starter. It's a mainstay and comes in very handy.
