It starts coals fast, without the need of any starter fluid.  All it takes is a few pieces of newspaper, your coals and a match.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A chimney starter is essential for cooking something that takes a few hours.  When you need to replace your coals, there's no need to add cold coals to the embers, so you won't lose heat.  It's also great for Dutch Oven cooking.&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Benefits to using a chimney starter:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;No need for starter fluid, so no more fuel taste in your meats / veggies.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Faster, hotter embers without having to tend to the coals.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Safer coal starting.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Great for long cooks (Turkey, Pork Loin, Pot Roast, etc.)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Tips for use:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Do not use a chimney starter directly on concrete.
